Meet the Team

Therapist and Practice Owner
Kat Cockey LCPC, ATR, MHS, CCTP, CCATP
Hi, my name is Kat Cockey! (They/Them)
I graduated from Adler University in 2019 with my Master’s of Arts in Counseling: Art Therapy degree and am currently scheduled to complete my Master’s of Health Science in Addiction’s Studies in the Spring of 2024. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Art Therapist Registered (ATR), Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). Prior to beginning my career in private practice mental health care, I conducted my clinical internship at both an inpatient and outpatient medical unit and I worked in a community mental health environment. I am currently enrolled in Adler University’s P.h.D in Counselor Education and Supervision program and I am passionate about providing supervision to other therapists who are seeking support!

Who do I work with?
I specialize in providing care to individuals aged 16+ who are struggling with anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, and who have experienced trauma; however, I also love working with individuals who experience depression, who are diagnosed with and seeking support with managing chronic illness and/or chronic pain, who are struggling with addiction (both chemical and process), who are diagnosed with OCD, who have difficulty with managing their anger, and who are struggling with life transitions (this can include, but is not limited to, changing identities and roles, shifting careers, going to college, etc.). Additionally, I have a commitment to providing care for individuals who are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and I seek to provide a safe and affirming space for my clients.

What approaches do I utilize?
I am trained in CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR, person-centered, and art therapy approaches; however, I also believe in the power of holding a safe space for my clients to talk it out. I believe in the Health At Every Size principles and I infuse them into my work with clients. I believe that access to quality mental health and medical care is a fundamental human right that should be accessible to all individuals. I practice utilizing an integrative lens as I do not believe that there is an effective one-size-fits-all approach to mental health care as all of us have different needs. I work with my clients throughout our time together tailor treatment approaches that will be the most effective for them.
My goal is to provide my clients with a chance to feel heard and to offer a supportive and safe environment where they can truly express themselves. I believe that the cornerstone to an effective therapeutic treatment is a strong and trusting relationship that is created through the establishment of a safe, collaborate, and non-judgmental space. Healing and growth are not linear and no one’s journey will look the same - my role is simply to serve as a part of your support system and to offer guidance through any path that you choose to take in life. I am here to listen - you dictate what we talk about, when we talk about it, and how we approach it. Together we can work to help you access your strengths, establish safe boundaries, explore different directions in life, heal from trauma, and instill confidence in your decision making.
I know that taking the first step isn’t easy - I am glad that you are here!
